Mukando helps savings groups (mukando / stokvel) keep an accurate record of member contributions over WhatsApp and the web. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we never do.

Who we are

Information we collect

• Phone number. Used to identify you, deliver one-time login codes, and send you replies on WhatsApp.
• Name or display name you choose to provide for your group record.
• Group and contribution records your group organiser enters: group name, cycle, contribution amounts, and who has paid.
• Messages you send to our WhatsApp number, so the bot can respond to commands such as JOIN, PAID, and BAL.
• Payment references returned by Paynow when a subscription is paid. We record the reference, amount, and status.
• Basic technical logs (timestamps, error records) needed to operate and secure the service.

What we never collect or do

• We never hold or move your group's money. Mukando is a record-keeping ledger. Member contributions are handled between members directly.
• We never see or store your mobile-money PIN, bank details, or card numbers. Subscription payments are authorised by you on your own phone through Paynow.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.
• We do not send marketing messages on WhatsApp. We reply to messages you send us, and send at most a small number of service messages such as a renewal reminder.

How we use your information

Only to run the service: to identify you at login, to keep your group's contribution ledger, to respond to your WhatsApp messages, to process your subscription through Paynow, to send service notices such as payment confirmations and renewal reminders, and to keep the service secure and working.

Who we share it with

• Members of your own savings group see the group's contribution records, as the group intends.
• WhatsApp / Meta deliver the messages you exchange with us.
• Paynow (Webdev, Zimbabwe) processes subscription payments.
• Our hosting provider stores the data on secured servers.
• We may disclose information if required by law.

How long we keep it

We keep your group records while your account is active, so your ledger history stays available. Backups are retained for up to 30 days on our servers and archived copies for disaster recovery. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep payment records for accounting purposes.

Security

Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to the administration tools is restricted, requires a separate staff login with two-factor authentication, and privileged actions are logged. Databases are backed up nightly to encrypted storage.

Your rights

You may ask us to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can stop using the service at any time. Email alfred.samanga@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

Mukando is intended for adults managing savings groups. Our exam-preparation service, Practice Past Papers, is used by students, and a guardian holds the subscription and can view their student's progress.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update this page and the date above.
